Calls for LOIS

Thank you for your interest in applying to the Water Research Centre’s third call for LOIs. 

 

This call will prioritize proposals that feature multi/interdisciplinary research plans. 

We are keen to support early career researchers and we encourage applicants to strive for diversity in experience and background within their teams.

Notes on Funding

WRC will cover 2/3 of the total project budget up to a maximum of 100k per year (up to 3 years). 

 

Successful applicants are expected to supply 1/3 of the total project budget (in cash) through other funding sources (not U of A, EPCOR, or AI). 
 

This may include NSERC, MITACS, or other grants and funding support available. Please note that in-kind support is valued, but will not count toward the 1/3 total. Any funding sources included must be unspent dollars.

This change is mainly intended to address declining NSERC success rates and long wait times while supporting the overall 1:1:1 funding ratio of EPCOR, Alberta Innovates, and other sources.

 

Please factor in 10% of the total budget to be allocated to WRC operations and research administration

Please also account for 5% GST charged to the WRC allocated total if applying for NSERC or MITACS.

• Download and complete the budget planning doc linked below. This will need to be uploaded to the Google form. 

• A copy of the LOI form is provided here as a Word document for offline preparation and planning only. We ask that all submissions be made via the Google form. 

• Any additional attachments or supporting documents (optional) can be uploaded via the form.

Review

All submissions will be reviewed according to this rubric. 

​

All applicants can expect to receive detailed feedback and rubric scores once decisions are finalized. 

Accepted projects will receive next steps for the full proposal stage by email.
