About the event

PROFESSIONAL SHORT COURSE PRESENTED BY Prof. Damia Barceló Chemistry and Physics Department, University of Almeria, Spain

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Microplastics (MPs) pollution in water, soil, and biota is one of the major environmental challenges facing the world today. With an estimated 4 million tonnes of plastic entering oceans annually and soil contamination ranging between 34-55 million tonnes, accurate characterization is critical. However, distinguishing MPs from organic matter remains a significant analytical challenge. This short course provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of MP analysis, risk assessment, and remediation.

Key Topics Covered

Analytical Techniques: Instrumentation using Raman, FT-IR, Microscopies, Pyrolysis, Thermal Desorption GC/MS, LC/MS/MS, and MALDI-TOF-MS.

Green Analytical Chemistry: Evaluating the "greenness" of methods, including solvent and energy consumption during analysis.
